Why work with us?

Collaborative approach. We partner with corporate in-house teams to develop effective strategies for tax planning, transactions and disputes that serve the client’s tax and business objectives.

Connections. Many of our tax attorneys, including our tax litigators, served in federal, state or local government positions. This experience gives our tax team an understanding of how authorities view tax matters and helps facilitate resolution of issues.

Commitment. We appreciate the internal demands placed on our clients. We are dedicated to being responsive and are committed to each client’s success.

Proactive advice. Our attorneys draw on significant planning and consulting experience when evaluating business transactions and structures. We understand the importance of careful analysis and documentation to support planning and operational decisions that are reviewed as part of a financial statement audit. Our experience defending corporations against regulatory actions and tax assessments enables us to provide more effective planning advice.

Success. Our clients recognize the results we achieve across all areas of our broad-based tax practice.

Experience. More than 30 attorneys handle tax controversy and litigation matters involving income taxes, estate taxes, state and local taxes, and excise taxes. We thoroughly understand the types of issues that the IRS has been emphasizing recently, such as claims for foreign tax credits or research and experimentation credits, Section 199 manufacturing deductions, repairs versus capitalization, cost segregation studies, TEFRA partnership cases, proposed revocations of tax-exempt status, and IRS penalty claims. While we are frequently able to resolve controversies short of litigation, our tax litigators have the experience and skills to effectively and efficiently pursue litigation when it becomes necessary. We have filed more than 100 court cases on behalf of more than 50 clients in recent years.
